[...] Simple Spam Filter looks for a particular pattern to distinguish a spam from a real commenter, like most of the other Spam filters. The best part for this plugin is, it can work along with Akismet and will display a captcha if Akismet flags a comment as spam.
I think the simplest way to block spam is to block messages which do not containt russian letters. Nobody will comment in English, because my blog is in Russian :)

Also I have a PHP-BB forum, and
1) Most of the spam is written in English
2) Only one message (of 150000 messages) in English was not spam.

The same situation in my GMail box.

So, the spam solution is to block English language in the Web. ;)

It looks like we've got a new version of the Simple Spam Filter for WordPress:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tantan-spam/

Unfortunately, I don't see many of the changes slated for 0.6.1 in there:

http://code.google.com/p/tantan-toolkit/source/browse/trunk/plugins/tantan-spam-filter/plugin.php

The only changes are the version number from 0.6 to 0.6.2, and changing line 437 from this:

	if (is_object($new) && is_array($new->response)) {

to this:

	if (is_object($new)) {

There must be another code repository somewhere...
