MetBlog + WordPress MU + Amazon S3

The new MetBlog just recently launched. A great design, and a pretty neat example of what can be done with WordPress MU. Of interest to me (and perhaps you) is that they’re using Amazon S3 as a host for their images, and in turn, using my Amazon S3 plugin for WordPress to help facilitate this. Jason over at MetBlogs actually contacted me a couple months back to see if I could tweak it to get support for the multi-user edition of WordPress, and so after a weekend or two, I did. It’s pretty neat to have been able to help out with their new site, even if indirectly
WordPress MU looks like it’s going to have some pretty interesting stuff coming down in the future, especially in the social networking space. So if you’re looking to setup a blog network like MetBlogs, the Amazon S3 plugin is ready to help you take advantage of Amazon’s network to keep your blogs scalable. The plugin fully supports both standalone and multi-user WordPress environments, and in the latter situation, you can configure it once to auto-install for all blogs in your network.

Mobshare is now using Amazon s3 for its content. Its a wonderful service.
Please let me add something:
Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service) is an online storage web service offered by Amazon Web Services. Amazon S3 provides unlimited storage through a simple web services interface. Data can be easily stored and retrieved at any time, from anywhere on the web. Amazon charges in proportion to the amount of data stored and applies charges for sending and receiving data.
Amazon S3 uses the same scalable storage infrastructure that Amazon.com uses to run its own global e-commerce network.
Launched in March 2006[1], Amazon S3 is currently being used by small start-ups and enterprise clients as a web hosting service, image hosting service, back-up system, and more.
So is Metblog offloading everything from user uploaded images as well as theme files, js, etc? Are those options available with the plugin? This is very enticing…sick work!
