The Really Simple Spam Filter has been updated with an additional rule, to check if a comment only consists of links. This brings the total number of rules the plugin uses to pre-filter spam up to 4:

• Contains 5 or more links to external sites
• Contains nothing but links
• Contains [url=http://www.example.com]example[/url] style links
• Contains a word that matches a short list of common spam words (for example, viagra or cialis).

To give some perspective on how well these four simple rules work, this plugin has already blocked 90,000+ spam comments since I started using it. That’s 90K less blog spam to look over with when checking for false positives in the spam moderation queue (which is managed with the Akismet spam filter).
