Two New Sites
1 CommentA couple sites I’ve worked on recently launched. I think there were a couple others since I last updated, but I don’t remember… so guess these two will do
First up is IFCJ.org. You can visit their shiney new site to learn more about the organization. As far as site construction goes, I think we did a pretty good job. As usual, I did most of the HTML and CSS work, while the other guys I work(ed) with did the design and site architecture. It’s built on the Convio platform, and tries to utilize as much standards based design techniques as possible, which is no easy task.
The other site that launched is Know H2O, which is for an organization that basically helps people in Africa find water. Despite being built on a CMS platform that outputs lots of random code, the templates are probably one of the cleanest implementation for site layout I’ve done so far. The HTML is pretty straightforward, and doesn’t stray too far from the basic header/content/footer layout structure. For stylesheet work, I decided to use the Yahoo YUI CSS Foundation as a base platform, and build on top of that. I tried to use YUI Grids for positioning the different elements on the page, but I ended up rolling my own layout code, since I get more control over exact widths and how things flow.. and really, it’s not all that complicated. But overall, I’m growing to like YUI more and more, and I’m excited to see where these kinds of frameworks will take web development.
The one little flourish I’m particularly fond of in the Know H2O site is how the bottom left corner in secondary pages neatly tucks under the text. Basically, I managed to find a way to do this with just one background image and one or two extra css rules. Who says standards based design has to be complicated :p
Well, thats all for now. I’m working to update some of my plugins for WordPress 2.3 compatibility, so keep a lookout for them when they hit.
PS: Halo 3 seriously rocks. I’ve played through the legendary single player campaign, and yeah… it’s really really hard (but fun). The ability to record and capture gameplay is so cool, especially when you get 20 kills in a multiplayer game and want to show it off. I think the first Halo is probably still the most revolutionary, but I think overall, Halo 3 is the best by far. And if you’d like to get your butt kicked (ya right!), come friend me: Quixotic54
PPS: It’s almost been a year…
