Prayer

I’ve been going through a series on prayer with my Bible study group at church, and one of the things that stood out in the past couple studies was how Moses, and Nehemiah responded when faced with difficult situations. Instead of just giving up in despair, they went to prayer and appealed to God’s past promises and asked for him to once again extend his grace and mercy into their current situation. That part about recalling past mercies really struck me, since I think it’s all too easy for me to just dwell on present problems and not remember all the ways God had been faithful and helped me when I needed it, especially when a situation looks like it’s going downhill fast. How great is it that we have access to a God through Christ that will listen and respond to our prayers, and will extend his mercy to us when we ask for it (and even when we think we don’t need it).

Thanks for not being a shame of the Name, Jesus Christ. God is a good God. Keep the good work. May the Lord gives you the godly wisdom that no man can’t have.

PS. I will try to implement your Flickr plugin to my site.

That’s a nice observation but it’s also not good or healthy to dwell on the past. I just can’t see how mentioning every bad thing that once happened and were given mercy for can be beneficial emotionally or spiritually for every prayer request. True, acknowledging that God has helped in the past is fine but rehashing all of it sort of defeats the purpose of the mercy making one free of past sins.

This is my first visit to your site. I enjoyed the exhortation to trust God and remind him of his Word. Also downloaded your tantan plugin. Stay focused on the Word.
