China So Far
6 CommentsHello from China… I forgot to bring the usb memory card reader for my camera, so pictures will have to come later. But for now, here are some highlights:
- Traffic: if you thought driving in Anytown USA was bad, you havn’t seen anything. Traffic signs, road markings, and even the direction of traffic are mearly suggestions to be followed, and only if conveinent.
- People: there are lots of people, everywhere. Even the Pizza Hut I went to had more people. There were at least a half dozen waiters standing around not doing much of anything except to wait on the tables in our general seating area. The fact book aint kidding when it says China has 1/6 of the world’s population.
- Pollution: like people, there’s lots of it. You can see it on the walls of practically every building, which kind of makes everything look old.
- Spit: I don’t know what it is (maybe the air?), but it seems like every other person in China (see above re: people) has an unusually large amount of siliva in their mouths which they are unable to swollow. And thus walking on sidewalks here is like walking through a loogie minefield. Gross ;p
Because I don’t have any pics to show yet, here’s some from random people on Flickr (just mentally photoshop me into the foreground):

Depending on where you’re at, don’t forget to try “mah la tang”, that hot spicy soup stuff where you choose the skewers of food you want to eat!!
If you’re in the western end of China, don’t forget about the yogourt with yak butter!
ack…”loogie minefield” is a little too graphic.
Those were my exact thoughts when I went to China. That and why am I able to see over everyone’s head? At 5′8″ am I that much taller? Did you try the 1000 Island dressing pizza at Da’ Hut?
i second rhea’s comment… hmm, does that mean i need to buy you new shoes after you get back?
hmmm…. yes, yes you do
Loogie minefield, eh? If you could just clear the street of all those people, you would be able to snowboard down the streets on a glistening sheet of phlegm. Maybe we can save that one as an exhibition sport for the Beijing 2008 Olympics?
