Amish in the News

I can’t help but be amazed at the Amish response to their recent tragedy. Instead of being quick to anger, they were quick to forgive; and instead of pointing their fingers to try and find someone to blame, they showed love and mercy. A few of the many qualities that are sorely lacking in our world today. And in stark contrast to how people handled Columbine, they even openly embraced and setup a fund to support the family of the killer, a wife and three kids, who are no doubt in as much a state of shock and grief as everyone else.

Perhaps the Amish are onto something with their way of life. No doubt the world would be a better place if we all followed their example and showed a little more patience towards each other and forgiveness for wrongs done to us. That’s not to say I think the Amish way of life is for everyone… I mean, I don’t think I would be able to give up the conveniences technology provides. After all, they only have one phone for each community, which means updating this blog would pose a slight challenge. But nonetheless I think a lot of the qualities and values that make up their ways of life should be something we all strive for. Kinda like Galatians 5:22.

Today is also turkey day in Canada. Link provided for those who still are not quite sure where “Canada” is :) If you’re wondering, the best part of Canada is in the lower left corner…

A pastor from my church back home went to go visit the very same community a week before the incident. They are an amazing people that I’ve had the privilege of meeting before.

Turducken, yes, I would like to try one as well!
