Happy Canada Day

Canadian Flag Superman.jpgSaw Superman Returns with my study group on Fri, and for the most part, the movie was pretty fun. The effects are very well done (the plane scene is so cool), and the story is pretty good too… unlike some some comic book movies. The story is also pretty interesting because you can definitely draw some interesting parallels1 between Superman and Jesus Christ. For example, Superman leaves for a while, only to return to find that the world is desperately in need of a savior, something which this real world also desperately needs. The thing Superman does at the end is also very similar to what Christ did to save the world. One thing I thought that wasn’t “real enough” (that is, as real as a man flying around in tights is real) was the fact that Lex Luther didn’t seem to be evil enough, especially for a comic book villain. I mean, Lex Luther only has half a dozen or so henchmen under his command, which seems to me as a little inadequate for taking over the world.

I guess this weekend was also Canada Day2, which was celebrated by grabbing a few rounds after the movie. Unfortunately, I was pretty much the only one celebrating in the group ;p So on that note, here’s a video titled “Talking to Americans” . It’s a little old, but still pretty funny and sorta true (I almost convinced someone at church that people in Canada speak… Canadian). I gotta say though, most of my American friends here are not so clueless about Canada ;)

1 Warning: minor spoilers
2 Think of it as Independence Day, but more north

thx for sharing that link, i wondered about the parallels! there was a part near the end (when superman visited jason at the house), reminiscent of the gospel of john–”the father is in me, as i am in the father…”

haha, that video is pretty funny. :)

    superman movie
The last time Superman communication across a silver divider Cheers was stagnant the towering TV show in the world, Ronald Reagan was in the White House and Margaret Thatcher’s smooth replacement was a long-forgotten condition office assistant called John Moore. Even the movie show industry, most likely the most beloved of all the superhero browse, incoherent to a stop in 1987 with the cheap Superman IV, which had such a low modest they shot it in Milton Keynes instead of New York. He’s been gone a long time. Sales on the prearranged Superman titles – in print by DC Comics – have been wedged at the level of a regional rag for years and years .
