Go Team Canada!

We took in 24 medals this time, which is our best haul ever. We also got 13 4th place finishes, a few of which were just mere fractions of a second away from bronze. That’s pretty awesome. Though I will admit we didn’t even get a medal in what some would say is our most important event1. Even so, I can’t wait for the next Winter Olympics. And if you were paying attention2, you would know that it’s gonna be in my hometown, Vancouver BC. Woot! I’ll see y’all there in 4 years :)

So speaking of winter sports, I went skiing / snowboarding this past weekend with a couple friends up at Mountain Creek, which is somewhere in New Jersey. The snow was definitely all man made, which to me is kinda weird since I’m from Canada… where everything is completely covered in ice and snow3. Well, I think I must be not hip or cool enough anymore, because no matter how I try, I just can’t figure out how to snowboard. I actually know this from past experience, but I thought I might give it another chance. So I skied first on Saturday, and that was fun. Actually went on a double black, which I think was more like a hard blue / easy black. But then I switched to snowboard on Sunday, and it was all over. Seems like once I strap on a board, the mountain and gravity both conspire against me to cause me pain. Ugh. I think I’ll stick to what I know, and just ski from now on thank you very much.

PS, anyone catch the latest episode of 24? Not only can Jack Bauer dodge bullets, he can also dodge bombs.

1 That’s ice hockey
2 Which would be surprising, considering that the Olympics got pre-empted by a NASCAR race, of all things
3 According to my American friend

    hi joe!
i think you were fine snowboarding. you could stay up and use both board edges. all you needed to do was go faster. it’s easier to stay balanced with speed too.
just try it a few more times and be more aggressive on the board, you’ll pick it up like nothing
