Texas Musical Trifecta
5 CommentsSo the other night, I went with a couple people from church to see David Crowder Band (with Robbie Seay and Shane & Shane) at the Lisner Auditorium in WashDC. One word: awesome. The place was packed, people were jumping, and when it was all over, everyone was exhausted from all the excitement.
The night opened with the Robbie Seay Band, who can be described as a Christian group with a rock feel. They were even good enough that I bought their CD afterwards. But… ultimately, I think they were just alright; I don’t know how many times it would get played on my iPod. Afterwards Shane & Shane came on and played their set, which was really good. I’ve heard about Shane & Shane, but never really got a chance to listen to them too much. Shane’s guitar skills are ridiculously awesome (uhm, I don’t know which Shane), and I wish I had skills to play like them. Their music can be described as having a kind of folksy guitar feel. Good music to listen to.
Then David Crowder came on. And wow, he really knows how to work a crowd into a frenzy. When he played some of his songs from his new Collision album, the crowd was, you know, decently loud. But when he played some of his older and more popular songs, it became really really loud. Everybody was jumping up and down and singing shouting along to the music, even if they didn’t know the words. It was pretty awesome being able to experience worship with a crowd of 1500 or so energetic people. At one point, he even broke out a keytar, which was absolutely hilarious and is probably the most ridiculous 80’s era musical instrument I’ve ever seen (or heard). A keytar kinda looks like this if you’re wondering.
Robbie Seay, Shane & Shane, and David Crowder are all from Texas (hence the title), so at the end of the evening, they all came on stage and did a couple bluegrass hymns… which I guess is what people from down south do??? I don’t know, I’m from the great north white… but nonetheless, it was a fun way to end the night. If you’re able to, I highly recommend checking out a David Crowder concert. It really is 10 times better than just listing to the CD. And it looks like David Crowder will be doing a 35 city tour with Third Day come spring 2006, sweet!

PS: I just recently rediscovered Hocus Pick, which is a Christian Canadian group I used to listen to all the time back in highschool… until I lost the CD. Fortunately Amazon has a used copy in-stock, so all is well. Here’s a music video I found online for their single, “I’m So Happy”, check it out!
PPS: I wish there was some sort of system where I could purchase (or download) a recording of the concert. There’s probably lots of crazy contract and legal issues to work out, but seriously.. that is something I’d pay for right away.
PPPS: Completely off topic, but check out this amazing magic trick. Seriously, you need to.

it’s sorta amazing and ironic(?) that worship bands can now sell tickets and people pay similar rates as a rock concert.. not to say that they shouldn’t be rightly compensated, but ain’t it amazing.. perhaps there will be bootleg recordings the way U2 concerts have them, that’d be the next step of evolution, eh?
Long as you don’t charge or pay, I think the legal issues would be much less complicated. P2P file sharing makes it easy to share; and plenty of handy digital recording devices should make it easy to record.
i went to check out the magic trick and i went back to it’s home page to look at more cause i am procrastinating.. and what do i find A KEVIN FERDERLINE SONG!?!?!?!? OMG my ears died T_T… who is he you may ask.. he is the “musically talented” britney spear’s husband… so stoopid… hope they run out of money… har har har har har
Woot! Texas rocks!!!
Sorry I had to miss out on Shane & Shane and the David Crowder band…stupid work. It would have been awesome. I’ve heard of Hocus Pick, but I didn’t know they were Canadian.
In Dallas, we have a Christian alternative rock station (www.897powerfm.com) and we have these music clubs that invite Christian bands to come play (www.thedoorclubs.com)…awesome. I love the feeling of worship with a crowd of strangers…a small glimpse of what heaven will be like, except we’ll know everyone.
I live in NC, and both of the concerts anywhere near me sold out about three weeks ahead of time. Can’t believe I missed this amazing trio. I am a long time fan of Shane and Shane, DCB,and have recently started listen to RSB. All amazing groups.
djchuang: The tickets are no where near the price of a large secular band. Tickets to the concerts in my area were $12.00.
DCB are amazing… wish to see this guyz
